Expansion Draft: Minnesota Wild

Minnesota Wild:

Minnesota was forced into a puzzling predicament when selecting their protected players list because of their depth in both areas of their roster. The wild opted to protect only 3 defencemen which meant that two valuable defencemen were to be made available, first being Marco Scandella. Scandella is a left handed 27 year old who is signed until the 2019-2020 season with an average cap hit of $4.5 million during that span. Scandella has showcased he is a top 4 defencemen in this league and is able to play on a team’s second unit powerplay when needed but the opposing option for Vegas is too much to pass up. Matt Dumba will be the choice for Vegas, Dumba who turns 23 this year is another credible top 4 defencemen with potential to become one of the top defencemen on the Golden Knights. Dumba is signed for one more year at $2.5 million, managed to muster 24 points this past year and already has 15 games of playoff experience. Dumba has room to develop into a top paired defencemen and is a right handed shot which plays in favor for Vegas which is why unless a first round pick is offered for Matt, he will be a Golden Knight come Wednesday night.
