Projecting Lines: Arizona Coyotes
It is that time of year… just a few months out from the beginning of October which means the start of a new NHL season. This offseason was a busy one, so this series will tackle the projecting starting lineups for each NHL team.
Is this the year the Arizona Coyotes finally crawl out of the basement and back into a playoff spot? The Derek Stepan trade seems like a perfect fit in Arizona. They have a plethora of young talent and need a bonafide #1 center to lead the charge. It will either be a successful year for the young forwards or another disastrous rebuilding season. The time is now Arizona – let’s hope Duclair and Domi can have some bounce back seasons and perform like they did in their rookie seasons. Not to mention the Salary cap for Arizona is filled with buyout/LTIR players – an interesting strategy for the numbers driven Coyote team.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson. The Coyotes backbone and the player Arizona relies the most on every night. He is most likely to be named the next captain and is well deserved of it. The Coyotes also made a big trade bringing in veteran Niklas Hjalmarsson from Chicago to help fill out the defense. Another question mark on the blue line is Jakob Chychurn – this highly touted prospect needs to live up to the expectations.

The Coyotes parted ways with their long time starter, Mike Smith, in hopes of paving a new road into the future. They acquired Antti Raanta from the New York Rangers in the deal that also sent Stepan their way. A hidden gem on this team will be back up goaltender Louis Domnigue, who has been a solid performer as of recent years. It will be interesting to see this two tenders battle it out to see who will get the majority of the starts for this upcoming season.
