Conn Smythe Alert: The Top 3 Candidates
The start to the 2018 NHL playoffs has been nothing short of outstanding. From heroic goals to game breaking saves to bone crushing hits, this post season has been jammed packed with action. The playoffs are always the greatest time because there are huge, meaningful games being played virtually every night. With that being said, it is difficult to keep up with each team and the top players on their respective teams. In this article we will take look into the Top 3 players fighting for the coveted award of playoff MVP.
The gruelling question of, who will take home the Conn Smythe Award and be deemed the most valuable player of the playoffs?
Enough cannot be said about this fiery sniper and his line of Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand. They have a combined point total of just 46 points in 9 games, led by no other than Pastrnak leading with 18 points. Like who could forget that 6-point night where this very line absolutely embarrassed the Toronto Maple Leafs (… Sorry Leafs Fans… maybe next year!). Not to mention, every game so far that the top line has scored at least a point in, the team has won. On the other hand, for every game that this particular line does not register a point (not that often) they have lost. If Boston can get passed the Tampa Bay Lightning… then this might be our winner.
p.s. I honestly had to re-read that a few times… 46 combined points in 9 games.
I forget the word… hmmm oh right, revenge. And that is exactly what Marc-Andre Fleury and his Golden Knights are set out to do. They have coined themselves “The Golden Misfits” lead by the catalyst Fleury who was left in no man’s land to be able to be scooped up during last season’s expansion draft. Almost one full year later and things seem to be just fine in Fleury’s play – in fact he is playing some of his all time best post season hockey. Through 7 games, fleury has amassed a league best 6-1 record boasting an incredible SAVE % of .960 and a GAA of 1.23. This team has to be one of the greatest things to happen to the NHL in recent years.
Oh, please not again. Just please. There is no secret the Pens are looking like a force to be reckoned with, led by no other than Mr. Sidney Crosby. Although young playoff sensation, Jake Geuntzel, is leading the team in points, there is little to no confusion of where this production is coming from. With 17 points (8 goals and 9 assists) in 9 games, if Crosby can keep up this production and secure a huge round 2 win against their rival the Washington Capitals, there should be no doubt Crosby’s name may end up on a few too many ballots completing the trifecta 3-peat for the kid. #CapsYear #DownWithSid
